Federal Border Czar Tom Homan has announced that an unprecedented surge of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents is coming to New York City in response to the city\u2019s sanctuary policies.<\/p>\n

Homan told Fox News on Sunday, \u201cIt\u2019s coming,\u201d citing the Trump administration\u2019s refusal to be hampered by Mayor Zohran Mamdani\u2019s vow to champion the city\u2019s sanctuary status and to continue resisting federal immigration enforcement.<\/p>\n

Homan refused to discuss specifics as to where and when enforcement actions would occur so as to avoid tipping off the various leftist groups who have organized to oppose ICE actions.<\/p>\n

\nHoman told Fox News that \u201cthere needs to be a surge\u201d and added, \u201cBut I am not going to show our hand because there are\u2026 well-funded groups who will try to impede, interfere. We\u2019re not going to give them any upside on this.\u201d<\/p>\n

The border czar\u2019s comments followed statements Mamdani made during a New York Times interview on Saturday, in which the mayor expressed \u201cpride\u201d regarding the city\u2019s refusal to cooperate with immigration enforcement and vowed to protect immigrant communities.<\/p>\n

Mamdani told the Times, \u201cWhat we are unwilling to do is to participate in\u00a0civil immigration enforcement with a federal government that has said openly it wants to deport a vast majority of people for crimes that we will never even know.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Fox News, Homan fired back at Mamdani\u2019s statement, saying that the mayor can have his stance but he will not prevent ICE from doing its job, noting, \u201cThat\u2019s called the rule of law. If he doesn\u2019t like it, call your members of Congress, tell them to change the law.\u201d<\/p>\n

The federal surge is also tied to New York state budget legislation signed into law by Governor Kathy Hochul that strictly curbs local law enforcement\u2019s cooperation with federal immigration officials and bans ICE agents from wearing masks during community operations.<\/p>\n

Homan has also argued that blocking ICE access to municipal jails removes operational efficiencies, forcing federal teams out onto the streets to conduct widespread community arrests.<\/p>\n

The border czar said that President Trump\u2019s campaign promises to address border security and to impose mass deportations are a large reason why he is the president today.<\/p>\n
