The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) have filed civil denaturalization lawsuits to revoke the U.S. citizenship of 10 naturalized migrants convicted of serious crimes<\/span>.<\/p>\n

According to Breitbart, the ten individuals were convicted of crimes including sexual abuse of a child, health care and wire fraud, immigration fraud, and conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute cocaine.<\/p>\n

\nUnder the Immigration and Nationality Act, a naturalized U.S. citizen\u2019s citizenship may be revoked, and certificate of naturalization canceled, if the naturalization was illegally procured or procured by concealment or by willful misrepresentation, according to the DOJ press release.<\/p>\n

DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin explained that individuals who commit fraud during the naturalization process forfeit the right to keep their citizenship.<\/p>\n

Mullin stated:<\/p>\n

These criminal aliens, comprised of drug traffickers, pedophiles, and fraudsters, lost that right and exploited our immigration system \u2014 harming real U.S. citizens. DHS is committed to ensuring we denaturalize and remove these fraudsters with every tool at our disposal.<\/p>\n

The filings took place in federal district courts across multiple states, including Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, and Washington.<\/p>\n

Assistant Attorney General Brett A. Shumate of the Justice Department\u2019s Civil Division said, \u201cUnder this administration, if you defrauded the naturalization process, you will face the full force of the Justice Department. We\u2019ve only scratched the surface \u2014 many more complaints are coming.\u201d<\/p>\n

The DOJ press release named the 10 individuals facing the loss of their U.S. citizenship and described the criminal offenses for which they were convicted.<\/p>\n

The 10 defendants face civil lawsuits in federal court where the government must prove the allegations and, if the government prevails, will lose their U.S. citizenship, revert to green card status, and could potentially face deportation.<\/p>\n

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche stated: \u201cEach of these individuals lacked the good moral character required by law and procured citizenship through willful misrepresentations and concealment of their crimes. Under President Trump\u2019s leadership, this Department of Justice will continue to aggressively pursue denaturalization to restore integrity to America\u2019s naturalization process.\u201d<\/p>\n
