Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., introduced legislation Tuesday that would cut off Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) from a data pipeline federal agents have used to identify and arrest illegal immigrants passing through American airports.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/urbaneconomynews.com\/?p=1361\">Morning Greatness: FDA Approves Moderna\u2019s mRNA Seasonal Flu Vaccine<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The bill, called the No TSA Data for ICE Act, would bar ICE and CBP from accessing information collected by the Transportation Security Administration, including passenger screening records, travel history and personal details TSA has purchased from private data brokers. The measure would also prevent the Department of Homeland Security from denying travelers access to trusted traveler programs such as TSA PreCheck based on constitutionally protected activity, including attending protests.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal would unwind an information-sharing arrangement TSA and ICE signed in 2025 that has allowed immigration officers to flag noncitizens as they move through security checkpoints. Tlaib accused TSA of helping ICE meet what she called a \u201cdaily arrest quota,\u201d saying in a statement that the agency was \u201ccomplicit in ICE expanding its chaos and cruelty to target our communities in our airports.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>TSA fired back hard at Tlaib, warning that stripping agencies of shared intelligence would leave the country exposed to terrorism just as the nation approaches the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. \u201cAs we approach the 25th anniversary of the horrific terror attacks of 9\/11, it\u2019s not shocking that some in the Democrat Party would want to neuter the Department of Homeland Security\u2019s ability to protect Americans from terrorists,\u201d a TSA spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/urbaneconomynews.com\/?p=1359\">Looking Back at the Uranium One Scandal<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The spokesperson noted that DHS was created after the 2001 attacks specifically to keep agencies from operating in isolation and missing threats hiding in the gaps. \u201cDHS was established to prevent information silos that could create blind spots against threats. Does Rep. Tlaib want our enemies to be empowered to attack the U.S. again?\u201d the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p>Tlaib\u2019s bill faces long odds. Republicans control both chambers of Congress, and the legislation is unlikely to receive a vote, let alone reach President Donald Trump\u2019s desk.
