The U.S. military struck Iranian military targets Sunday after Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces were observed preparing to deploy additional sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz, according to U.S. Central Command.<\/p>\n

American forces struck two Iranian launchers on Larak Island that CENTCOM said were being prepared to fire rockets carrying sea mines into the strategically vital waterway.<\/p>\n

CENTCOM described the operation as a \u201climited, precise action\u201d against Iranian forces that presented an \u201cimminent threat.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIn essence, Iran created the threat and the U.S. military eliminated it to protect civilian mariners, commercial shipping, and the free flow of global commerce,\u201d CENTCOM said.<\/p>\n

Iran\u2019s Tasnim News Agency, which is affiliated with the IRGC, reported that a drone carried out the attack, killing two people and wounding two others.<\/p>\n

The strike marks the first known U.S. attack inside Iran since President Donald Trump paused a two-week American military campaign in the Strait of Hormuz in late July.<\/p>\n

It also comes days after the U.S. military finished clearing mines from the strait\u2019s primary shipping lane. Trump subsequently warned Tehran against attempting to mine the waterway again.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is a Zero Tolerance policy on mine placement in full force and effect,\u201d Trump wrote on Truth Social. He said Iranian vessels attempting to deploy additional mines would be \u201cimmediately and systematically destroyed.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world\u2019s most important energy corridors, making efforts to disrupt shipping there a threat to global oil supplies and commercial traffic.<\/p>\n

Iran vowed retaliation following Sunday\u2019s strike.<\/p>\n

The IRGC said the attack \u201cwill be answered by the sons of Iran and will result in the punishment of the aggressor.\u201d<\/p>\n

Iran later launched several ballistic missiles toward a U.S. military base in Jordan in apparent retaliation, according to a U.S. official. No American facilities were hit, and there were no reports of casualties or damage.<\/p>\n

Jordan\u2019s military said its air defenses intercepted eight missiles fired from Iran.<\/p>\n

CENTCOM spokesman Capt. Tim Hawkins said U.S. forces continue to monitor the region and remain prepared to protect commercial shipping through the strait.<\/p>\n
