The final stretch of the California governor\u2019s race is upon us.<\/p>\n

Two Republicans have been vying for the top spots in the CA Jungle primary.<\/p>\n

Disturbingly, some polling suggests that two Democrats could dominate the Top Two, shutting out the Republicans. What kind of foreboding losses await the Golden State, already tarnished with progressive failure for the last 30 years?<\/p>\n

Billionaire wannabe Berniecrat Tom Steyer is throwing all his hard-earned cash into telling voters that they should vote for him, because he will tax all the other rich guys. He promises to push climate justice, prosecute ICE, and make sure that everyone\u2014including the illegal aliens\u2014has free healthcare.<\/p>\n

He hosted his last rally at Los Angeles Trade Tech College near Downtown Los Angeles on Sunday, May 31, 2026.<\/p>\n

It was a hot afternoon; lots of union types were milling around; and there were plenty of young people who looked like they just woke up (presumably out of their mothers\u2019 basements).<\/p>\n

About 100 people showed, not counting the five or six newscasters.<\/p>\n

The key spokesmen for rich man Steyer included Francesca Fiorentini, a progressive podcaster and comedian, a pre-K teacher, CA State Assemblyman Isaac Bryan, Los Angeles City Councilman Hugo Soto-Martinez, and finally Steyer.<\/p>\n

I heard the word \u201choard\u201d so many times in those different speeches. The cadre of hippie boomers and progressive Gen Zers are convinced that the wealthy are holding out on the rest of us. Not only should they pay \u201cTheir Fair Share,\u201d\u2122 but they should also feel guilty about having so much money to begin with. Fiorentini blurted out, \u201cI hate capitalism!\u201d Then she encouraged the rest of her billionaire-hating buddies in the sweltering crowd to give Tom Steyer a chance.<\/p>\n

Isaac Bryan represents Culver City (with woke Hollywood-like studios), so of course he pushes as hard to the Left as he can. One has to wonder why this outspoken black assemblyman ditched State Superintendent of Schools Tony Thurmond (black, Latino, and Jewish) for a rich old white guy, but he is pushing his progressive credentials, so he got behind Steyer. Was there money involved? Who knows?<\/p>\n

Hugo Soto-Martinez is a part of the growing Democratic Socialists of America bloc taking over the Los Angeles City Council. He wants to keep the homeless on the streets, defund the police, and blame the businesses for all the problems in the City of Angels. He stood up loud and proud for Steyer as well, burnishing his credentials as the real progressive leftist, lining up with the Our Revolution endorsement.<\/p>\n

Steyer finally took the podium, and the applause was generally warm.<\/p>\n

He was talking their talk, how he spent huge amounts of money targeting Trump. He gladly, glibly told them, \u201cI was not born a billionaire, and I will not die a billionaire,\u201d as he intends to give away as much of his money as possible.<\/p>\n

It was a pitiful sight, watching a wealthy man openly despise himself because he\u2019s, well, wealthy. He was desperately playing the part of the overgenerous uncle, determined to indulge the adult grandkids so that they would come visit him next week.<\/p>\n

The crowd was fired up, though. They were \u201cHot for Tom,\u201d as Francesca had led them to chant during her rant. She had also compared him to Ebenezer Scrooge, suggesting that he had been visited by three ghosts and had changed his \u201cwicked, wealthy ways\u201d to help the rest of California.<\/p>\n

The Carpenters Union was the featured group at the rally. Why a private sector union would get behind such heavy public sector spending would confuse many, but most likely they want a piece of the \u201cOne Million Homes\u201d contracts, which Steyer pledges to build to ease the housing crisis.<\/p>\n

From Downtown Los Angeles, I darted down to the Long Beach Convention Center. There, former state assemblyman, congressman, California attorney general, and secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra was hosting his final GOTV rally before the June 2 primary.<\/p>\n

In contrast to the Steyer progressive pigsty at the trade college, Becerra\u2019s team invited everyone into a shaded, air-conditioned convention. Lots of chairs, lots of lights, lots of signs, and definitely lots of energy. It was pretty impressive . . . if you\u2019re a Democrat.<\/p>\n

While walking in, I noticed critics on the Left protesting outside the convention center. They think of Becerra as a corporate stooge\u2014or worse, an enabler of \u201cgenocide.\u201d At least, that\u2019s what the small band of pro-Palestinian protesters had been chanting while I was entering the event. They were also condemning Chevron, calling the company complicit in the murder of Gaza children because of their support (?) for Israel. Then they slammed Becerra, since he\u2019s getting lots of bloody oil money from that corporation.<\/p>\n

I love the Left vs. Left infighting, don\u2019t you?<\/p>\n

There were more people at this campaign rally, for sure: at least 300. Music from the latest artists was bouncing off the loudspeakers. A party atmosphere dominated the arena, with lots of banners for everyone to hold. I took five (forgive me later).<\/p>\n

A pink-decked DJ was running the show. He was hyping everyone up to cheer for \u201cTio Xavier.\u201d At one point, I asked an attendee, \u201cWhy Becerra? What about Steyer?\u201d The guest told me that he was stuck between the two of them, but he found Becerra to be a \u201cMan of the People.\u201d And Planned Parenthood endorsed him, too. That clinched the deal.<\/p>\n

Lots of Planned Parenthood paraphernalia polluted the hall, actually. Plenty of pink (how sick!), and the director for the California PP affiliates spoke at the rally. She wants \u201creproductive justice,\u201d and Becerra has carried their (bloody) water for decades throughout his political career.<\/p>\n

Many state Democratic officials attended the Becerra rally, including State Assembly Speaker Pro Tem Josh Lowenthal, Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas, my (awful) Congressman Ted Lieu, and three heads of major labor unions: the firefighters, SEIU, and others.<\/p>\n

Becerra was rolling out the major artillery of heavy endorsements, far more than Steyer had at his smaller rally. Leaders for the California Young Democrats and the California College Democrats also showed and touted their support for Becerra.<\/p>\n

This guy was polling in single digits and almost got left off the debate stage a few months ago, and now he\u2019s the front-runner?<\/p>\n

Finally, Becerra came to the podium. Nearly a decade ago, when he was appointed attorney general, a large group of Trump supporters (including myself) would follow him around and shout him down. This past Sunday, he looked strong, energized, engaged. He couldn\u2019t believe the support he was gaining!<\/p>\n

As a conservative watching two progressives battling for governor of California, a few comparisons stood out: they shared no vision for California. They talked about protecting \u201ceveryone,\u201d including the illegals, but not a word about improving public safety. They talked about the costs of health care, food, and housing. Becerra didn\u2019t talk about taxes. Steyer and Becerra refrained from trashing Trump incessantly. \u201cOrange Man Bad\u201d will only take them so far, I suppose.<\/p>\n

The candidates sounded dire and deflated. They sidelined Trump and just talked about giving people stuff. Not very inspiring, and not a recipe for success for the failing state of California.<\/p>\n
