{"id":237,"date":"2026-06-03T09:12:46","date_gmt":"2026-06-03T09:12:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/urbaneconomynews.com\/?p=237"},"modified":"2026-06-03T09:12:46","modified_gmt":"2026-06-03T09:12:46","slug":"spencer-pratt-emerges-as-top-challenger-to-karen-bass-in-los-angeles-mayors-race","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/urbaneconomynews.com\/?p=237","title":{"rendered":"Spencer Pratt Emerges as Top Challenger to Karen Bass in Los Angeles Mayor\u2019s Race"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass advanced to a November runoff Tuesday after a turbulent first term marked by the deadliest wildfire in city history, persistent homelessness and growing voter frustration over the direction of the city.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/urbaneconomynews.com\/?p=235\">Why Black Entrepreneurship Lags<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Spencer Pratt, former reality television star, surged into second place in early returns.<\/p>\n<p>The Associated Press had not yet officially called the second runoff spot Tuesday night because of California\u2019s lengthy ballot-counting process.<\/p>\n<p>Bass addressed supporters after the initial results were released, defending her record and vowing to continue fighting for reelection.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI appreciate you for standing with me when others doubted me, because you know who I am,\u201d Bass said. \u201cI have devoted my entire life to serving the city that I love, where I was born, and I\u2019m going to continue to do that all the way to victory in November.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pratt, best known nationally for his role on the reality show \u201cThe Hills,\u201d quickly positioned himself as the leading anti-establishment alternative to Bass.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can do debates every Friday if she would like,\u201d Pratt told reporters after the results began coming in.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/urbaneconomynews.com\/?p=233\">The Death Spiral<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Pratt said he entered the race because he believes Los Angeles leadership has failed residents on basic quality-of-life issues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI got in this because as a citizen, I felt like my city failed \u2014 myself, my neighbors, my family,\u201d Pratt said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMayor Bass has allowed the city to be covered in potholes. We don\u2019t have sidewalks. We don\u2019t have lights,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m an Angeleno who said \u2018Enough is enough.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pratt\u2019s campaign gained national attention tapping into voter anger over visible urban decline across Los Angeles.<\/p>\n<p>Progressive Democrat Nithya Raman, a Los Angeles city council member backed by the Democratic Socialists of America, trailed behind Bass and Pratt.
