Karmelo Anthony has been found guilty of first degree murder in the fatal stabbing of Austin Metcalf during a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas, last year. The Collin County jury reached the verdict Tuesday afternoon, rejecting Anthony\u2019s claim of self-defense after deliberating for less than three hours.<\/p>\n

Fights broke out among Karmelo Anthony supporters outside the courthouse, with police swiftly making arrests to keep the peace.<\/p>\n

\u201cDeputies have made their presence clear, that they\u2019re not going to tolerate any form of chaos,\u201d Fox News reported.<\/p>\n

Anthony is facing life imprisonment.<\/p>\n

The stabbing occurred at the Memorial High School tent in the David Kuykendall Stadium on the morning of April 2, 2025. The altercation started when the track and field championship event was delayed due to thunderstorms and heavy downpours and Anthony crashed the Memorial team\u2019s tent. Hunter Metcalf, Austin\u2019s twin brother, told Anthony to leave the tent. During the argument that ensued, Anthony allegedly said, \u201cTouch me and see what happens,\u201d while reaching his hand into his backpack. Metcalf then pushed Anthony on the bleachers they were on.\u00a0 Anthony then pulled out a knife from his backpack and stabbed Metcalf once in the chest before running away.<\/p>\n

Witnesses estimated Anthony was asked to leave as much as 15 times during the confrontation, with one testifying that they did not try to gang up on Anthony and that the exchange lasted about two minutes. Multiple students labeled Anthony as the aggressor.<\/p>\n

Anthony\u2019s family set up a crowdfunding campaign on GiveSendGo to pay for legal defense, raising over $515,000 by May 1, 2025. GoFundMe crowdfunding campaigns were also launched by Metcalf\u2019s father and the owner of the pizzeria in Frisco where Metcalf worked part-time, raising only $250,000.<\/p>\n
