The agreement describes those treatments as \u201csex-rejecting procedures.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The health system is also prohibited from referring minors for such procedures, coordinating the services through third parties, or owning or operating facilities that provide them.<\/p>\n<p>Ohio law currently prohibits transgender-related medical procedures for minors.<\/p>\n<p>The settlement resolves allegations that Cleveland Clinic submitted inaccurate diagnosis codes to Ohio Medicaid beginning Jan. 1, 2020, in connection with transgender- and gender identity-related services provided to minors.<\/p>\n<p>According to federal and state officials, the hospital used diagnosis codes for unspecified endocrine disorders rather than codes they contend more accurately reflected the reasons for the procedures.<\/p>\n<p>Cleveland Clinic described the matter as \u201can unintentional coding issue involving a small number of patients.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are pleased to have worked collaboratively toward a resolution,\u201d the health system told WKYC.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/urbaneconomynews.com\/?p=520\">Morning Greatness: Senate Shoots Down Resolution to Limit Trump\u2019s Military Authority Over Iran<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe remain focused on providing exceptional care to our patients and communities,\u201d the statement continued. \u201cWe have complied and will continue to comply with all federal and state laws.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Federal officials said the agreement is part of an ongoing nationwide Department of Justice investigation into providers offering transgender-related medical services to minors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Department of Justice is steadfastly committed to protecting America\u2019s children,\u201d Associate Attorney General Stanley Woodward said.<\/p>\n<p>Woodward said the settlement follows a similar agreement reached last month with Texas Children\u2019s Hospital.
