Despite bipartisan support in the House, significant differences between House and Senate proposals have cast doubt on the bill\u2019s prospects.<\/p>\n<p>The House package would establish baseline federal standards for protecting children online while allowing states to adopt stricter safeguards. That provision would require online platforms to design their products with children\u2019s safety as a primary consideration. Its exclusion drew criticism from child safety advocates and a bipartisan group of senators, including Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., who is working with the White House on a separate child online safety proposal.<\/p>\n<p>Several Senate Democrats also urged House lawmakers to reject the bill.<\/p>\n<p>Commerce Committee ranking member Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., warned against advancing what she viewed as inadequate legislation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re not going to let bad legislation with a good title just get across and think somebody\u2019s done something,\u201d Cantwell said.<\/p>\n<p>Rep.
