The collision killed Pahira, 44, and both trucks erupted in flames.<\/p>\n<p>Pahira had served for nearly twenty years with the Pennsylvania State Police and was known as \u201cBig Mike, or \u201cMikey.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bon, who had been living in Brockton, Massachusetts, was charged with homicide by vehicle, aggravated assault by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter, reckless driving and several other lesser charges, Fox News reported. He is being held at Schuylkill County Prison on $700,000 bail and ICE has lodged an immigration detainer on him.<\/p>\n<p><iframe allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen=\"\" class=\"lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/pwRDnNWnn4M?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"281\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" title=\"Massachusetts truck driver charged in death of Pennsylvania trooper\" width=\"500\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Bon was reportedly admitted into the country by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in July 2024 as a parolee in the Biden era CHNV program.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201chumanitarian\u201d initiative was established by the Biden-Harris regime in 2022 and 2023 and allowed up to 30,000 nationals from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaraguan, and Venezuela to enter the U.S. per month until the end of Biden\u2019s term.<\/p>\n<p>Bon applied for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) in October 2024, but was denied, according to Fox.<\/p>\n<p>The state of Massachusetts issued a Non-Domiciled Commercial Driver\u2019s License to Bon on June 11, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-863\" height=\"344\" src=\"https:\/\/urbaneconomynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/848261315006327569e6fe1d077a9ee5.jpg\" width=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/urbaneconomynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/848261315006327569e6fe1d077a9ee5.jpg 500w, https:\/\/urbaneconomynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/848261315006327569e6fe1d077a9ee5-300x206.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p>Just two days later, on June 13, 2025, the Trump administration issued him a Notice of Termination of parole, revoking the legal status he\u2019d enjoyed under\u00a0 Biden.<\/p><p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/urbaneconomynews.com\/?p=859\">Paul Pelosi Under Investigation After Alleged Hit-and-Run in Napa County<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Despite this, the state of Massachusetts reportedly renewed Bon\u2019s CDL in February 2026.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis tragedy NEVER should have happened,\u201d The Department of Homeland Security said in a statement posted on social media, Monday. \u201cOur prayers are with Trooper Pahira\u2019s family, friends, and loved ones during this time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The trooper\u2019s tragic death comes amid Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy efforts to tighten commercial driver licensing following a slew of fatal crashes caused by non-domiciled CDL holders over the past two years, Fox reported.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Last year, Duffy launched a nationwide audit of states issuing non-domiciled commercial driver\u2019s licenses after a series of deadly crashes, including crashes in Wyoming, Florida and California. During his State of the Union address, President Donald Trump said at least 17 fatal crashes in 2025 that killed 30 people involved immigrants living in the country illegally driving commercial vehicles with CDLs.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Transportation has also threatened to withhold federal funding from states found to be issuing licenses to drivers who are ineligible under federal law. In April, the Transportation Department withheld more than $73 million in federal funding from New York, saying the state failed to revoke commercial driver\u2019s licenses issued to drivers who were no longer eligible. Duffy said the move was intended to hold states accountable for ensuring only qualified and properly vetted drivers were allowed behind the wheel of commercial trucks.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Stephen Polishan, President of the Pennsylvania State Troopers Association, released a statement calling the homicide a \u201csenseless killing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is not about politics. This is about right versus wrong. Trooper Pahira was a hero, and his family, fellow troopers and the public deserve answers,\u201d Polishan said. \u201cThey need to know why the person accused of this senseless killing, who was in the United States illegally, had been granted a commercial driver\u2019s license in Massachusetts. This individual should never have been driving such a dangerous vehicle on our highways. But he was, and now a good man is dead. Trooper Pahira should be alive today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Senator Dave McCormick (R-Penn.) is also demanding answers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTrooper Michael Pahira should be alive today,\u201d McCormick posted on X, on July 4. \u201cIf reports are accurate, a man whose legal status was terminated remained in our country, obtained a CDL, and is now charged in his death.
