According to Just the News, GOP Sens. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN),  Katie Britt (R-AL), Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), Mike Lee (R-UT), and Kevin Cramer (R-ND) are leading the effort to explicitly limit membership of the DAR to biological females.

The group, founded in 1890, is made up of a membership of women who are direct descendants of American Revolutionary War patriots.

In October 2023, :

Some have asked if this means a transgender woman can join DAR or if this means that DAR chapters have previously welcomed transgender women? The answer to both questions is, yes. The bylaw amendment does not change that fact, and we will continue to welcome them into our Society in the future.

Last year, the DAR voted 1,481 to 984 against a measure to keep membership for those “born female.”

Blackburn told Fox News that, “The [DAR] was founded by women for women, and its founders would be appalled that the organization is now allowing biological males to become members and undermine the legacy of real women who helped build our nation.”

The DAR holds a federal charter, and the women who founded it would be appalled the organization is trying to erase their legacy by allowing men to become members.

Blackburn added, “The Daughters of the American Revolution Membership Integrity Act would amend the DAR’s federal charter to stop the organization from erasing biological reality and ensure it is reserved for the real daughters of the American Revolution.”

The bill would add an amendment to the DAR’s charter that limits membership to females, defining them as “a person who naturally has, had, will have, or would have but for a congenital anomaly or intentional or unintentional disruption, the reproductive system that produces, transports, and utilizes the large gamete (ova) for fertilization.”

Sen. Tuberville, said in a statement, “Alabama has over 4,000 members in the DAR, and they shouldn’t have to be putting up with this woke nonsense.”
