Texas law enforcement officials said this week that state troopers and federal agents apprehended multiple groups of illegal immigrants in Maverick County, including six Chinese nationals dressed in camouflage clothing, raising fresh concerns about border security and potential national security threats.

According to Texas Department of Public Safety Lt. Chris Olivarez, tracking K-9 Bona and her handler assisted Border Patrol agents on May 26 in locating seven migrants attempting to evade capture on a private ranch in Maverick County.

Officials said the first group included individuals from Mexico, Guatemala, India, Ecuador and Cuba. All were referred to Border Patrol custody.

Later that same night, Border Patrol agents apprehended a second group of 12 illegal immigrants on another private ranch in the county. Among them were six Chinese nationals identified as Special Interest Aliens, all reportedly wearing camouflage clothing.
“These apprehensions highlight the ongoing efforts in deterring criminal activity along the southern border and the critical partnership between Texas DPS and our federal partners under Operation Lone Star,” Olivarez said. “Border security is national security.”
Officials did not accuse the individuals of espionage or ties to the Chinese military. However, their classification as Special Interest Aliens and the use of camouflage while attempting to evade authorities indicated potential national security implications.
“These are not typical border crossers,” Olivarez said in a social media statement warning that such incidents continue to escalate along the southern border.
