Gabbard said in her letter to Trump that she will leave office on June 30.
“My husband, Abraham, has recently been diagnosed with an extremely rare form of bone cancer,” Gabbard wrote. “He faces major challenges in the coming weeks and months. At this time, I must step away from public service to be by his side and fully support him through this battle.”
“Today, with great humility and sincere appreciation, I shared the below letter with President Trump. It has been a profound honor to serve the American people as DNI,” she posted on X.

Trump responded to Gabbard’s resignation on Truth Social, making clear that he believes she did an “incredible job” as DNI.
“Unfortunately, after having done a great job, Tulsi Gabbard will be leaving the Administration on June 30th,” the president wrote.

Her wonderful husband, Abraham, has been recently diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer, and she, rightfully, wants to be with him, bringing him back to good health as they currently fight a tough battle together. I have no doubt he will soon be better than ever. Tulsi has done an incredible job, and we will miss her.
Trump said the “highly respected” Aaron Lukas, currently the Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence, will be stepping in to serve as Acting Director of National Intelligence.
Lukas, a former policy analyst at the Cato Institute, was Deputy Senior Director for Europe and Russia at the National Security Council under the first Trump Administration.
Update:
Gabbard plans to release the findings of several high profile investigations before she departs ODNI, according to The Daily Wire’s Mary Margaret Olohan, including “Havana Syndrome/AHIs, COVID, weaponization, the 2020 election, and more.”
