The city of Chicago saw seven people killed and dozens of individuals wounded over the weekend, in spite of the city’s restrictive gun laws.

Breitbart reports that the brutal weekend began Friday night with 13 people being injured in a drive-by shooting in the city’s Princeton Park neighborhood.

Police say the drive-by shooting took place when two shooters inside a red SUV opened fire on a crowd of people celebrating Juneteenth.
Shootings continued across the city with ABC 7 reporting a 32-year-old man shot in Englewood, two men being shot in the Grand Crossing neighborhood and other victims found shot to death on the West Side and in Little Village Friday night.
An 18-year-old man was killed in a West Side shooting and a 37-year-old man was found shot to death on Chicago’s South Side early Saturday, while a 15-year-old boy was shot later that evening outside a McDonald’s restaurant.
The violence spilled over into Sunday with a 21-year-old South Side man fatally shot, a 36-year-old woman being shot during a gathering in Lawndale and a 17-year-old boy shot in Brighton Park.
Chicago along with the state of Illinois boast some of the strictest gun control laws in the nation.
Those policies include a red flag law, an “assault weapons” ban, a “high capacity” magazine ban, a 72-hour waiting period on gun purchases, a Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card requirement for gun possession, a concealed carry license requirement for carrying a firearm for self-defense, a gun storage law, and more.
Chicago also bans so-called “assault weapons” and “high capacity” magazines and prohibits individuals from being armed for self defense on public transit as well.
The weekend shootings prompted a response from President Donald Trump who weighed in on the violence in a social media post, asking why Governor Pritzker hasn’t called him for help.
