“Massive Oil, Gas, and Mineral Exploration is getting ready to begin in our new and beautiful Greenland!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
The president claimed the Arctic territory possesses enormous energy reserves, saying its easily accessible oil resources could exceed those found in most other parts of the world.
The announcement follows a September agreement between the United States, Denmark and Greenland that expands America’s military presence on the strategically important island while preserving Danish sovereignty and Greenland’s right to self-determination.
Under the 10-page agreement, the United States will establish two additional military bases, one in Narsarsuaq in southern Greenland and another in Mestersvig in the east. The facilities will supplement the existing Pituffik Space Base in northern Greenland.
The agreement also creates opportunities to deploy elements of Trump’s proposed Golden Dome missile defense system, designed to protect the United States against advanced aerial threats.

Trump emphasized Greenland’s importance to defending both America and its European allies.
“Greenland, from a Security Purpose in the Defense and Offense of both the United States of America, and Europe, is second to none,” Trump wrote.
He argued that Greenland’s geographic position makes it essential for intercepting potential attacks involving missiles, drones and emerging weapons technologies.
The president has advocated expanding American influence in Greenland since his first administration, citing the island’s strategic location, abundant natural resources and growing importance as Arctic shipping routes become more accessible.
Greenland also contains significant deposits of rare earth minerals, which are essential for advanced military equipment, electronics and other technologies.
