President Donald Trump said Friday that he is banning CNN, MS NOW and Politico from the White House in his long-running battle with news organizations he accuses of publishing false and unfair coverage.

“Media Outlets shouldn’t be able to constantly write or report FICTION and LIES when they’re covering the President of the United States, the Trump Administration, or the United States of America,” Trump wrote in a Friday Truth Social post. “Other Fake News Media Outlets to follow.”
Asked about the scope of the restrictions, Trump described the move as “a very simple ban.”
“I don’t want him in my office. I don’t want them here. I would say the ban would go as far as you can,” Trump told reporters.
Trump said Politico was targeted in part because the Biden administration spent $8 million on subscriptions, spending that Trump later canceled.
The targeted outlets pushed back. CNN said it stands behind its White House team and argued that implementing the ban would constitute “an illegal assault” on its constitutional rights.

Politico said it would “continue to fairly report on this White House and future ones” and vowed to defend its First Amendment rights.
Trump has clashed with White House reporters before. In February 2025, he restricted Associated Press access to certain presidential events after the organization declined to use “Gulf of America” instead of Gulf of Mexico.
During his first administration, Trump also revoked White House access for CNN reporter Jim Acosta and Playboy reporter Brian Karem. Both journalists were eventually allowed back following legal challenges.
Trump suggested Friday that other outlets could face similar action, singling out The New York Times and The Washington Post for criticism.
“We haven’t taken the step of throwing them out, but they’re fake news,” Trump said. “You know, we’re doing so well, and they’ll take the most positive story and make it as negative as possible.”
